If the discharge is not greenish, it's probably nothing to worry about. Some cats are prone to "eye goop". However, one common cause of chronic scabby stuff in the corners is herpes. MANY cats have herpes of the eye and it is spreadable to other cats. Unfortunately, like other forms of herpes, there isn't much you can do about it... but I'd have the vet check it out at your next checkup. If the discharge has a greenish tint to it at all, it's likely an eye infection and needs special eye meds (or oral meds) from the vet or it can get worse and cause blindness or even eye loss. Good luck!

if the scab looks like a brownish or chearish crust, then your fine. Some cats are just prone to excess eye discharge, just like dogs. Just clean the area with a warm damp cloth daily. Also, every cat's hygeine routine is different, one of my cats cleans his face 2-3 times a day, but my other cat only once every 2-3 days. She get's the eye crusts which I just brush away or if they are sticking to her fur I use the warm damp washcloth. If it's really bad you could mention it at the next vet visit.

My 4 months kitten has a discharge in the corner of his eyes. It's a black dot that I clean everyday.

The vet said he has herpes and it's not serious just keep it clean. Also, you can give him Lysine in his food.

I got 500 mg of Lysine and give him 1/4 of a tablet mashed in his food. I tried 1/2 tablet and he got diarrhea. 1/4 tab really helped clear it up.

Herpes in cats is not contagious to humans, but can be passed to other cats.

Also, it flares up when stressed. When I took him to be neutered he came back with the black dots due to stress. I'm now starting the Lysine again. I only give it to him when needed not every day.

I'm not saying your kitten has herpes; your vet will know and advise what to give him.

Don't know if Ragdoll cats are prone to this.
