Deprogramming Ragdoll Kittens: Carpet Shredding

Ky and Zuli have shredded (TOTALLY destroyed) the carpet on both sides of my bedroom door. If you put them in the room they claw the carpet to get out, if you put them out they claw to get back in. No, I’m NOT installing a cat door… it would swing all night! It’s their last bad habit and I’m determined to break them of it. What I’ve tried so far: Soft Paws (they can pull the carpet out too), it’s just more quiet with the paws on. Water bottle: I wake up in the middle of the night hosing down all the walls and door. By the time I get the bottle they are under the bed enjoying the show (oh they do love watching the water drip off the walls and ceiling fan!). I bought some clear car floor mats that detered them for a few days, then they started digging under them and getting to the carpet. Finally, I bought a ssscat compressed air motion detector for cats. We’ll see how it works. Any helpful suggestions appreciated :)

We actually tried special two-sided super sticky tape ( just for cat scratching) on our garage door. They pulled it down and got it everywhere! It really didn’t work for a determined cat. I remember Loki got his paw stuck to his nose with it. I think he was trying to ‘wipe’ it off his paw with his face or something. It worked for Loki and Snowball, but Ky and Zuli are just crazy about doors… It really didn’t work.

What about just leaving the door open?

    1. My adult (22 year old) son moved back in with his 3 cats, for a total of 7 cats. 5 are males. When his cats had access to my room the whole place smelled like urine. His cats were spraying to claim the territory and my cats were spraying to defend their territory.

OMG, there was piss and fur everywhere!

    2. Said 22 year old would be traumatized walking passed my room.

    3. My cats won’t sleep if there’s anything else they can get into. Even after he leaves (next month) it can’t be open.

Ya know, the air canister appears to be working still! The cats have stopped wanting in and out all night (that can’t be fun being anxious!) and they are sleeping all night like they use to. The air canister may have solved it. WOO! :)

Lol thats good! Let’s hope the air canister stays working! 7 cats! Wow! I’d love to see what thats like. I stayed with a friend once who had 5 cats and it was neat because any room you went to in the house there was a cat! lol!

Do Snow and Loki cause any problems?

Nope, Snow and Loki are very well trained. Ky and Zuli are the first kittens we’ve had, I think we’ve just been lucky and always got well trained cats before. I had no idea kittens could be so stubborn!
