Desperate to Learn My Cats Breed!!!?

September 4th, 2010

I have attached two photos of him…wich will help.lol
Since you really cant tell his fur texture, or exact color, he has really thick long fur, almost like a ragdoll i cat. His eyes change from blue to green. very well tempered. I mean, he has not once lashed out in his 2 years of life. Sometimes his black fur looks almost brown? i dont know.
i hope someone can kinda tell me a little bit about his breed(s).
thank you

Congratulations, you have a very beautiful domestic longhair cat! If you didn’t purchase him from a breeder with a pedigree, then your cat doesn’t fit into any specific breed category. Non-pedigreed cats are classified simply as Domestic Shorthair (DSH) or Domestic Longhair (DLH). Coat color and length, size and temperament can vary tremendously and there is no set standard. Many officially recognized breeds originated through the selective breeding of DSH and DLH cats for certain traits. As a result it’s not uncommon at all for a DSH or DLH to have one or two traits that resemble those of a recognized breed. The reality is that 95% of the world’s cat population is not purebred. Your kitty is quite beautiful, though. I’ve always had a soft spot for black kitties.

Hard to tell from the pictures, but my educated guess would be a domestic long hair.

    Ragdoll cats are HUGE.

Almost all cats are just your average random cat- we would call it a "mutt" in dog language. It’s a lot less common for people to have purebred cats where it’s pretty common to have purebred dogs, so as a result, the chances are slim that you’ll actually be getting a purebred or even a 50/50 mix of pure breeds if you adopt a cat from a shelter or find one or get one out of a newspaper, etc.

So, it’s probably just a mutt cat.

DLH – Domestic Long Hair. Meaning that it is a cat of indeterminate breed.

from the pictures i think it is a blue eyed cat.
blue eyes usually have siamese in them.
black fur that looks brown is a seal color.
if long hair than i would say he is a long hair mixed. very few cats are a full breed as the breeders are careful and keep their breeds pure. so most common cats owned are mixes.
