Has Anybody Owned a Ragdoll Cat?
September 3rd, 2010
I have one about 5 months old. He is such a character, follows me everywhere….but he is not as fluffy as they are supposed to be. I am worried I was ripped off. I love him to bits but he is supposed to be a long hair cat. Also he crys whenever we pick him up. Could he be in pain?
The ragdoll breed takes a very long time to mature. I have read that from all the research I did prior to purchasing our blue mitted ragdoll from a reputable breeder. And it is very true. It took about 3 yrs before all her colour points came out and her hair length. Also, I noticed her hair has different textures and length to it depending on the time of year.
Regarding the description of your kitten crying when being picked up…..to have your own peace of mind I would take your new "baby" to the vet just to be sure there isn’t a problem. You may just find your fella is just vocal. Or there is something he is trying to tell you.
If you purchased your kitten from a reputable breeder you shouldn’t have any feelings of being "ripped" off. Ragdoll kittens are very expensive and one must really do good research on a breeder prior to such a commitment. Wishing you many years with your new furr baby.
teehee.
He sounds like a character. :]
No, He’s most likely isn’t in pain. It’s just something kittens do.
Ragdolls’ hair will grow in time.

Because of the cat individuality, their fur to grow at different times. Not all Ragdolls are long-haired, and it could be part of a mixed breed with mostly ragdoll in him. And as far as crying when being picked up, it could possibly be he is in pain, but also because he’s just vocal. I once had a cat who cried when picked up but after a vet visit, we found out she was just… noisy. So I would call a vet and ask just in cast.
