How Do I Know if My Kittens Deaf?
July 12th, 2010
I have recently bought a Pure White Persian Ragdoll Kitten, Hes now 7 weeks and is pure white and fluffy, his pads, nose and ears and pale pink and his eyes are blue. I have heard his that it is very common for white kittens with blue eyes to be blind and deaf
Im pretty sure he isnt blind and he seems to be able to find my hands and feet but im not sure how i would know about the deafness.
Can anyone help
Thanks

yes it is true that most white cats with blue eyes are deaf. it’s also more commen in males. a way to tell is if he doesn’t come when you call/shake treats or whistle. another way is if hes completely oblivious of all loud noises (thunder/vacuum/screaming/tv/music/sudden noises.) hope this helps! and good luck with your new cat.
yell at him when he’s not looking.
Make a loud noise see if she reacts to it…
Good Luck!

A "Persian Ragdoll"? That I find hard to believe. Breeders just don’t crossbreed cats and not sure where this horrible backyard breeder would have gotten hold of unaltered cats of two different breeds. Breeders are VERY protective of their lines and don’t hand them over to just anyone.
And SEVEN WEEKS? This kitten should have been with its mother until it was at LEAST eight to ten weeks old.
Your kitten’s eyes may not stay blue. ALL kittens are born with blue eyes so they may turn to green or gold by the time he’s three to four month’s old. Get him to a vet for a checkup.
Pretty easy to tell. If the cat can hear normally his ears will twitch. If the ears are not twitching then that’s a sign he’s having major issues with his hearing.

I have a deaf blue eyed ragdoll. He would also sleep above my husbands head who is a loud snorer and was never bothered by it. We finally had him BAER test (google it) done by a vet which cost $40. Try making loud noises right next to his ears but be careful that he doesn’t feel movement or a breeze. Try screaching next to his ear while he’s sleeping. At first it was a disappointment but later figured it was okay because he sleeps better and it didn’t take long for him to get use to some simple hand commands. Good luck
