How Do You Know if Your Cat Doesen't Feel Good?
September 3rd, 2010
I have a pure whight, pure breed Ragdoll and her eyes are glassey and she became extremly lazy all of the sudden. She’ll be 4yrs next month.I feed her top of the line food "Inova" both wet and dry.Do think i should be to worried? I apologize for my spelling.Thank you all.
The last time my cat was sick she hid, was totally unresponsive, and actually looked ill. She moaned and complained when touched. There was no question about it.
The vet will check the eyes, the nose, the body temperature and the pulse. You need to continue to observe Kitty and see if there are any other changes to report to the vet.
Hmmmm…. take your kitty off Innova right away and give her something else like Wellness or Feldiae or other top line commercial pet food. There’s some discussion going on about Innova/Evo (Natura products) on the Itchmo forum – some lady had her Innova dog food (kibble) independently tested because she beleived the food made her dog sick. Anyways, the test came back positive for cyanuric acid and acetaminophen (Tylanol). But that’s the dog kibble. Just in case, if I were you and my cat suddenly displayed such symptoms, I would switch to a different food just to see if it was the food. By the way, I feed my kitties home-made raw but I do supplement with high-end commercial food including Felidae wet and Innova Evo dry. They are OK. Another thing that may be affecting your ragdoll is the HEAT. I found that wiping down my long-haired kitty with a very wet hand towel helps him a lot in coping with the heat. My short hair likes to get wiped down with a wet towel too on hot days. Also, give your kitty lots of fresh water. I actually give my cats water through an oral syringe once a day just to make sure that they are well-hydrated in this heat!
there nose ia dry and warm hope i helped you
The symptoms you describe could indicate that she is not feeling well. You should contact your vet.
I don’t think you should be too worry. Most neutered cats are lazy especially when they get older. You said you have a Ragdoll, they are usally not very active breeds. If your cat wasn’t eating at all, then you shouldn’t be concern.
Aside from taking her to the vet, look to see if her stools are normal. She could have an obstruction in her intestinal track. Is she eating normally? Is she drinking water? Does she puke up furballs a lot or has she stopped recently? She may have ingested something as cats will lick themselves and if their paws get into any chemicals it could get them into trouble. Antifreeze can be fatal to animals if ingested and some other household cleaning agents too. Basically if she tries to hide she and the practice is unusual then she isn’t feeling good. Behavior that is not normal for her is a clear sign of trouble. Seek a vet if you can afford it.
Usually a change in their usual behaviour is an indication that they may not be feeling well. Sometimes it could be minor and pass but other times it could be the start of something more serious. I understand that vet costs are high. I suggest making a phone call to a vet and speaking to someone there. Twice I have called the vet for my cat and both times the nurse there gave me great advice and didn’t even suggest I bring in my cat unless she doesn’t get better. You should at least make that phone call.
Also i have read some of the other answers and I don’t think it is the food unless you have recently changed her food or there is something wrong with that batch. If she has been eating it for 4 years it is not going to make her unwell all at once. It is actually important to never change a cats food all at once, it should always be done gradually.
Well, any change in behavior can be a sign something is wrong. The fact that her eyes appear glassy and she’s suddenly become lethargic at such a young age doesn’t sound good. Even though a cat is on a top quality food there are illnesses and conditions that they can develop. I think making a visit with the vet would be a good idea. If she does end up fine atleast you have peace of mind, but if there is something serious affecting her catching it early will be helpful. Remember, it’s natural for animals to hide there injuries or sicknesses as in the wild they would be a target to prey, so often they don’t show symptoms until it’s pretty bad. I wouldn’t wait, make an appointment with a vet as soon as you can.
she’s probably lazy because you feed her to much. top of the line isn’t always the best either what does your cat like there just like us how do you know she like’s that kind of food did you let her choose because i let mine
take her to the vet and get her checked out
I agree if the nose is dry and warm, and she is laying around more than usual then something could be wrong, also you might want to take her temperature, that’s the gross part cause you got to stick the thermometer up her hiney bo. Also check her eyes, if they start to get crusty then take her to the vet.
