July 19th, 2010

My friend wants one. Where can we buy one and about how much are they?

Pure white isn’t an accepted colour of Ragdoll so anyone breeding them would be a backyard breeder breeding cats for money – not for the love of the breed or to better the breed. Ragdolls should be pointed – markings like a Siamese.

If you want a kitten go adopt one from a shelter – of any breed or of no particular breed. Don’t support evil backyard breeders while MILLIONS of shelter animals are put to death every year since there’s just not enough homes for them.

edit: that’s not true that Ragdolls aren’t lap cats. Many are. And if you only spent $500 your cat likely ISN’T a Ragdoll. Did it come with papers?

Don’t buy!! Try to find a source for adopting one in your area!

Before you decide to get a bred cat (as opposed to a domestic shorthair) read about it and be sure you can handle the care. Ragdolls are great cats, but they have long, fluffy fur. They require a lot of brushing. Also, certain breeds are more prone to certain illnesses.
As far as cost, they are probably a good few hundred bucks.
Do your research and be sure it comes from a reputable breeder.

Ragdolls are expense but the breeder sets the price. If it is a pure bred it will come with papers that show its lineage so you know there are no milkmen in the bushes so to speak. Call around to local vets and someone will know where a local breeder is. Be sure to do your research on the breeder as some of them sell sick animals. I have a purebred Himalayan and found her on Craigs list and she cost me nothing. It would be kind of you to take in an unwanted or badly treated cat if you can find one. A whole lot cheaper too.

I paid 500 bucks for mine. He is amazing, he’s 3.

Ragdolls make terrific pets. They greet you at the door, and their goal in life is to get attention from their owners. If you’re a real busy person or want a self-sufficient cat, look elsewhere. They are very docile yet playful at the same time. They are the gentle giants of the cat world, and wouldn’t hurt a fly.

They are NOT lap cats though. They will sit next to you or lean on you, but they do not like sitting on people’s laps (they’re too big for that anyway)

They have very soft fur like a rabbit and they do shed A LOT, so you have to groom them regularly. It is manageable, but you will be buying lint rollers and using them before you leave the house.

edit: Yes he came with papers. The normal price was 650 but since he was the last of the litter and a bit old for a kitten I got it for 5. It’s a brown seal point, Siamese style markings. You’re high on catnip if you think you can’t get a Ragdoll from a TICA registered breeder for $500. =^_^=

Yeah thats a cute little kitten, but in a few months it grows up to be a big cat with lots of long hair. Bread cats also tend to have more health problems.

There are thousands of kittens put to sleep everyday across the country because they can’t find homes for them Adopting an unwanted kitten is a much better idea.

Sorry but none of the associations accept "all white" Ragdolls as Ragdolls. They are a pointed/bicolor breed of cat. I suspect the cat may not be purebred – or its a Ragamuffin and not a true Ragdoll.

My suggestion would be to go to your local animal shelters and find the closest match possible to adopt. Adopting a cat is saving an animals life, it is much less expensive, the kitten will most likely come already fixed and given all of its first round of shots, and most importantly it will in most cases be healthier than a pure bred cat. In my experience with a pure bred Maine coon cat she had a much shorter and less healthy life because the inbreeding done to keep the cats pure is severely detrimental the the cats health.
