I Just Got a Ragdoll Cat, Need Advice :)?

July 29th, 2010

Yeah, i just got a ragdoll cat, beautiful but really really scared of me.
It was with its owners since birth, but they gave her away to me because they got new furnitures.

It’s only day one but she’s been hiding behind the tv, table and around 3am came to my door meowed i got up but she quickly hid again.

How long will it take for her to get used to me?

I have a ragdoll and they are very timid, shy cats by nature.

Keep handling her gently but firmly, and grroming her and she’ll get used to you. It may take a few weeks but be patient. Mine now sits curled on my lap and purrs loudly, folows me around and is a delightful companion.

Make sure you have a good scratching post so she’ll leave your furniture alone. Also make sure you have some interesting cat toys so when she’s alone she has something to play with.

Ragdolls are wonderful but like most cats need patience and love to thrive.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new pet.

There are cats that settle straight away. However as this is not a young kitten and also a purebred (which sometimes can be a Little bit sensitive) it’s more likely to be 2 to 3 weeks.

I got a ragdoll cat two years ago and he did the same thing. It only lasted about a week though and now he doesn’t leave me alone he always wants to be with people and only runs from my brother because he tortures him.

Dont worry in a week or two she will be following you around and greeting you at the door when you get home. They are really funny like that.

Good Luck with your new cat!!!! =]]
