July 28th, 2010

www.janson.com The Ideal Companion: A DVD Guide to Cat Breeds is an indispensable “visual guidebook,” not just for prospective cat owners, but for cat lovers in general. Produced in cooperation with North America’s top breeders, this DVD provides insights into the history, temperament, sociability and life span of 20 different breeds of cats. It includes colorful charts that indicate brushing requirements and detail how active and vocal each breed tends to be, and a special section with valuable tips on what to look for when choosing a kitten.

    My ragdoll is not affectionate, and doesn’t like company.. She is also very very vocal. Compared to my himalayan, she is much louder and expressive.
    On the other hand, my himalayan is verrry affectionate and much more friendly than my ragdoll.
    Just advice not to buy cats based on these information.. they can be very different from what the stereotypes for their breeds are meant to be.

    I don’t know what Ragdoll this lady has, but my Ragdoll is an active little spaz! I use the term “little” loosely. He is 11 mths, taller and heavier than my 9 year old cats. He is by NO means a floor-dweller. He LOVES my other cats, and has never met a stranger. He talks ALL day and the voice isn’t quiet. Everyone things he speaks sentences. I do bathe him, and trust me, even wet, he’s no skinny kitty. He isn’t fat, either; just a large breed. I’ll never own another breed, if I have my way.

    She just described the complete opposite of my ragdoll cat. she’s high-energy, noisy, always playful and climbs all over :) All cats are different, really.

    My kitty talks to me.. She is pretty vocal mostly when she is hungry.. or if i talk to her and make eye contact. So if i want her to be quiet i just ignore her completely.. but the min i make eye contact she cant help but say hi

    My ragdoll will be here on Thursday!!!!! I can hardly wait. Why use a hot water bottle when you have a ragdoll kitty! His name is Gilbert!

    I have ragdolls and they require a LOT of grooming. They do not have single coats like she says. They have double coats.

    *sigh* I have a Tortie kitty and I took in after someone abandoned, but she is slowing getting out of hand and jumping at my husband and the biting. He’s getting fed up and even though I love her, I fear since I’m pregnant now, it will get worse and we can’t have her attacking or jumping at a baby. That’s the reason her previous owners toss her out for. In worse case if I have to give her up, then I think a ragdoll kitty might be for us.

    i have a small Maltese dog and i am wondering if this type of cat will not harm it. I know that the dog wouldn’t harm the cat for a fact. I noticed that you said they get along well with large dogs, but the Maltese is very small so a cat might swat at her. If anyone can get back to me about if this cat is best with the small dog and/or what type of cat is best with small dogs thanx!!

    @ipwnuuuu2

    i have a two year old ragdoll who absolutely adores dogs both big and small. when i babysat my neighbor’s 6 week old cocker spaniel, nellie would bathe him and wouldn’t let him out of her sight. they are extremely nurturing cats-my cousin also has one that adopted a couple of orphaned bunnies and nursed them along with her own kittens. they are absolute angels that love to take care of everyone in the house.

    I have never met a Ragdoll in person, but they are beautiful and I have always liked the things I’ve heard about them. You can tell the one in the video is a sweetheart, look how she’s kneading the table:)

    We got our Ragdoll (A bicolor) from an animal shelter. He’s lovely and very gentle with our daughter, and he plays with our Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.. it’s pretty cute. Quite a bargain, for $80 ;)

    @lmfreels: I can confirm what you say about Raggies being nurturing. My Charlie adores kittens and takes care of anyone in my home who’s feeling unwell or stressed. Truly, Raggies are the best cats ever.
