Is Out Cat a Small Ragdoll… or Another Breed?

we have a cat.. everyone says that she looks like a ragdoll.. but shes tiny.. shes about 4-6 pounds.. so she would be too small to be a ragdoll.. is there a smaller version of a ragdoll?
shes fully grown.. doctor said shes just very petite..

She looks a bit like a Seal Point Ragdoll but unless you have papers to prove that she can only be called a "domestic" cat. When you pick her up does her body go limp? Ragdolls love to be held and are very relaxed when you pick them up.

Lots of nonpedigreed cats have pointed markings like your cat. That doesn’t make them a specific breed it just means somewhere in their background – maybe 20 generations ago – there was pointed cat DNA. And with over 97% of the cats on this entire planet no particular breed, odds are that’s what she is.

Is she friendly with strangers? If she is she’d be a great show cat to compete in the Household Pet class at TICA shows. She’s beautiful!

edit: Uggg… you let her breed? May I ask WHY? How every many kittens she had means that many more cats or kittens put to death at your local shelter since you took homes from them. Please get your cat spayed. Over TWELVE MILLION cats, dogs, kittens and puppies are put to death at shelters every year because there’s just not enough homes for them.

Its impossible for us to tell without a picture. What are her markings? Rag dolls have very thick long fur. The ones I’ve seen have the markings of a siamese but with much (MUCH) more fur. I’ve read that they’re called rag doll cats because when you pick them up they go limp like a doll, but I dont know how true that is. (I did a lot of research on that breed because I wanted one). If your cat is an adult I highly doubt she’s a rag doll because they do get huge. Is it possible she’s a maine coon? They also get big but they dont reach their maximum size until 3-5 years old. The reason Im asking is because we just got a cat from the shelter. He’s about 8 months old and I thought he might have some rag doll in him because he kind of looked like one. The vet looked him over and said she thought he looked like a maine coon. They have distinctive faces so maybe you should do an image search and see if your cat looks like them at all.

If not then do an image search on rag dolls and see if she resembles them, but if she’s an adult cat and she’s only 4-6 pounds, then its’ not likely.

edit- wow she is beautiful. She doesnt look like a ragdoll to me, she looks like she’s siamese. I’m not sure if siamese cats have long fur so she might be mixed with something.. but if she were a rag doll she’d be a lot bigger.

Your cat just sounds like a very small domestic longhair. Unless you bought your cat from a Ragdoll breeder, she probably isn’t one. :)

Five pounds sounds very very small for a cat- are you sure she is finished growing? Is she emaciated? My kitten is six months and weighs five pounds.

Ragdolls are usually really quite large, even the females. There are other breeds that may look kind of similar though; long-haired seal-point persians, for example, or just general long-haired himalayans. If I could see a picture it’d probably be easier for me to say if she was a ragdoll or not. It’s usually easy to tell just by looking, although I don’t know exactly what it is that makes it so obvious ><

Is her body entirely white/cream or does she have brown/coffee-coloured fur on her back too? Ragdolls normally have darker fur on their bodies as adults as well as just the face/ears etc.

    eg.
    Persian: http://www.wordsworth1.com/images/adults/Dance11%20copy.jpg
    Note mostly pale back.

    Himalayan long hair: http://files.dogster.com/pix/cats/43/260043/260043_1139206078.jpg
Note almost white everywhere but points.

    Ragdoll: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v192/Tracy821/Snuugga.bmp
    Note much more dark fur.

Unfortunately this isn’t necessarily reliable since there are also himalayans with darker fur and white ragdolls and such… Of course persians at least can be identified/ruled out by the classic snub-nosed face shape…
