Is There Anything Bad About Ragdoll Cats/kittens?
June 1st, 2010
My mum recently left my dad and will soon be moving into a new house and will also be getting a burmese or ragdoll cat (but I’m pretty sure she’ll be getting a ragdoll). I’ve heard so much about how fantastic ragdolls are and now I really want one but I also really want to know if there’s anything annoying or frustrating about them.
Thank you (:
We don’t want to breed them we just want one.
Even though most likely he’d be indoors only, a Ragdoll is a hybrid cat, and in doing so is missing the defence gene, it does not defend itself against dogs, it just lies down. A friend of mine’s cat died because of that. I would have a Burmese over Ragdoll anyday, personalitywise, character, the works.
Many people who visit catteries, and see the darling kittens running around the house, express an interest in breeding Ragdolls. They see a family home that is neat and clean, and doesn’t smell like cats. They assume that breeding cats is an easy part time job that anyone can do. They also know what the current price of a Ragdoll kitten is, and think there must be money to be made by doing this.
While we breeders love what we do, it is important for people contemplating breeding, to know the truth about breeding. It is an expensive hobby that takes lots of time and work. There is NO money in breeding cats. That is the real truth about breeding cats the correct way, and for the right reasons.
ragdolls are suited for everyone. downside would be the long fur – but most cats enjoy being combed.
Just the fur all over your place (not as bad as some long hairs but still bad).
