My New 5 Month Old Ragdoll Kitten Wont Eat or Drink! I Brought Him Home Yesterday and He Hasnt Eaten Yet.?
September 3rd, 2010
The kitten is very happy and playful and seems fine, however he hasnt eaten anything or drank any water or milk whatsoever since i brought him home yesterday. I have tried putting the food different places and bringing him to it often but he is just not interested. Im getting worried.
you should be worried. Young kittens have very little reserves.
Contact where you got the cat from. Mention what is going on, and see what they say. It might be the cat is particular to a certain type of food.
If the cat is lethargic or just doesn’t seem to care about anything any more, take the kitty immediately to the vet. Since kittens have very little reserves, it doesn’t take much to make an illness life threatening.
Good luck!
Are you feeding the same stuff the he was eating before you adopted him? This might be the problem. Get some of the old variety and wean him onto your new food.
Also, he is still investigating his new surroundings and when a cat is unsure of its surroundings, it often will not feel secure or comfortable enough to eat. While it isn’t good to let a cat go without food, generally a cat will seek out some kind of nutrition when hungry. If he still hasn’t nibbled on anything by tonight (including his old brand of food) you can add a little tuna juice to the food. Tuna juice is nice and pungent, and the aroma is generally stronger than a cat’s fear!
Good luck — he just needs a little time to adjust.
It’s fine…My cat did the same thing except now she’s really picky..Just leave the different food out and when the kitten gets hungy it’ll look for it and eat.
Every cat I’ve ever had has done this. He’s just getting use to his new home, and has put eating off to the side. Just leave the food and water out, and leave it in the same place.
If he would go for a week without eating, or start acting weird, then call your vet.
Give him a little more time. Don’t move the food too much or he will get confused. Just take him to the food every hour or so and try.
If by tomorrow he has not eaten, gotten a drink or used the litter box then you should take him to the vet.
