Please Help Me! Best Answer!?

July 14th, 2011

Hello, I am a tween girl who absolutely loves animals. I have wanted and researched the breeds and care of canines for several years, yet my parents have not given in to my efforts to get one.

Lately I have liked cats. They’re so graceful, beautiful, and simply wonderful animals. I like the Ragdoll, Bombay, and American Shorthair breeds. My favorite coloration of cats is black, but really I have no preference. I used to be like my dad: think that cats are disloyal and unloving to their owners, but now I see the beauty and affection that is the cat.

My dad, however, dislikes cats. Our house is on the small side, so I can’t have a dog. But it would be perfect for a cat. I’ve thought it through and thought that cats would be easier to care for. I am scared of presenting the idea of getting a cat to my dad in the wrong way–I’ve done it before and it hasn’t exactly worked out. But this time I really want to show my parents what a wonderful animal the cat is, without my dad talking about them in disgust.

I believe I would take very good care of a cat, and that it would be a good beginning pet for me. I love animals and would get a cat from the animal rescue (no shelters in my area). I would prefer a cat to a kitten, because I would want to ensure the safety level of my cat.

My brother is slightly allergic to cats so I would like one that does not give off as much dander. My parents also like to keep the house neat, so I would want one that does not shed hair as much.

My house consists of three bathrooms, a bath area, a master bedroom, 3 other bedrooms (one is used as a study), a kitchen, a living room, a family room, a smallish yard, 2 stories, and a small wood area near the front door.

I am currently eleven years old (I know, I sound much older).

Please tell me the following:

~What breed sounds best for me?
~What are the pros and cons of cat ownership?
~What will I have to be willing to do?
~Do you believe that my home is right for a cat?
~Are cats affectionate pets?

Thank you. Best answer will be given to a descriptive, informative, lengthy answer.

Additional note: I am willing to spend up to 45 minutes a day grooming my cat. I am at school for 7 hours, my dad is at work, but my mom stays home for the day. When I get home it will take me approximately 30 minutes to do my homework and I will spend the rest of the day playing with my cat.

EDIT: My mom would take care of the cat when I go off to college.

EDIT: I will pay for both the cat and the supplies. My parents will probably take care of the veterinary visits.

EDIT: My house isn’t small—just on the small side.
