What Breed Do You Think My Cat Is? (Pic Included)?

July 31st, 2010

I have had my baby cat for a little over two years now. We got her when she was very young, and we only know that her mother was Siamese. However, she has longer hair than a Siamese cat, but she does have the blue eyes. I’m not sure what kind of personality a Siamese cat has, but my cat is VERY active. She plays all day long and take breaks to sleep. She likes to sprint around the house, and she loves to play fetch with paper. She actually acts like a dog. She does flips, and acrobatics. She is definitely the queen of the house and she gets what she wants. She does have a very affectionate side too, and still nurses and lays with me. I’m not an expert in cat breeds, except for a very few. I’ve been told she might be a Ragdoll or more likely Burmese. Does anyone think differently?

This is the picture:

Unless you have papers to prove otherwise, odds are your cat is no breed at all – just like over 97% of the cats on this entire planet. Cats were domesticated THOUSANDS of years ago and breeds only established in the last 100 or so. So most cats aren’t a breed or even a mix of breeds – they’re simply domestics.

Breeds of cats only occur from matings between two pedigreed cats of that breed. A Siamese cat can’t have a Ragdoll or a Burmese. And your cat also looks like neither of those breeds. The Ragdoll has a thicker, plush coat and a different shaped face and the Burmese – wow – you’re way off – a short coat, a different shaped face and they’re also always sepia brown http://tica.org/public/breeds/bu/intro.php She’s also looks NOTHING like a Balinese which someone else mentioned http://tica.org/public/breeds/ba/intro.php

It’s not likely the mother cat was even a pedigreed Siamese as breeders tend to sell their cats altered unless the cat’s been chosen to be part of the cattery’s breeding program. Love your cat for what it is – a domestic cat with pointed markings. It doesn’t need a label.

She is so cute! I’d guess that she’s Balinese because they act similarly to Siamese (fetching is a very Siamese thing to do) but they have longer fur.

Balinese. From the picture, it looks like your cat’s fur isn’t as long as a Himalayan’s normally is. Look at the second picture on the website I’ve linked as a source and you’ll see a balinese cat that looks similar to yours. Your cat looks very cute by the way.

She looks like a Himalayan, which are cross breeds of Siamese and Persian.

I have a lilac point Himmy and she looks like your cat, but mine has smaller ears, a flatter face and lighter points (she’s gray and white with light blue eyes). She has more Persian than Siamese in her).

She’s a beautiful cat, though. She looks like she has more Siamese in her.

If you had a Ragdoll, you would know. Ragdolls have a very distinct personality in that when you pick them up, they tend to go limp, like a ragdoll toy would. Thus, the name. If she doesn’t do that, she’s probably not a Ragdoll.

Siamese do not have the long fur, they are very lithe with distinct faces and have short to medium fur. Siamese also tend to be quite talkative and have very strong personalities. Sounds like she’s got the siamese personality.

If her mother was a Siamese, she’s probably a siamese-himalayan mix.

Actually what you have is a Balinese Cat.The Balinese is a breed of oriental cat with long hair and Siamese-style markings, or points. It resembles a Siamese with a medium-length silky coat and a plumed tail, but is not nearly as fluffy as a Himalayan, and requires much less grooming. Balinese are extremely intelligent cats, although less talkative than their Siamese ancestors.

Like the Siamese, there are now two different varieties of Balinese being bred and shown – "traditional" Balinese and "contemporary" Balinese. The traditional Balinese cat has a coat approximately two inches long over its entire body and it is a sturdy and robust cat with a semi-rounded muzzle and ears. The traditional Balinese closely resembles a Ragdoll cat although they do not share any of the same genes or breeding other than having a partially Siamese ancestry. A "contemporary" Balinese has a much shorter coat and is virtually identical to a standard show Siamese except for its tail, which is a graceful silky plume. Like the Siamese, the Balinese has a long, slim body, wedge-shaped head, and vivid blue eyes. Its soft, ermine-like coat is short in comparison to those of other longhaired cats, and doesn’t form a ruff.

She looks like a ragdoll. But most likely a mix because most domestic cats are mutts.
