What Cat Breed Is My Cat if It Has Characteristically Soft Fur?
July 25th, 2010
He’s not a kitten, he’s getting on in years.
But his fur is very very fine and extremely soft – just like a 2 wk old kitten’s fur.
I don’t think he’s a ragdoll, as I’ve had those before – he doesn’t look like one and he isn’t very talkative (all the ragdoll’s I’ve had were extremely talkative – they were very chatty, or couldn’t shut up for five minutes,…. which drove my former boyfriends crazy).
He also has very very big toe nails and big fat feet, even though he’s a normal sized cat. I have to trim his nails at least once a week because they grow fast, once I let them grow out you would think he was part raptor.
Do you guys have ideas what breed he may be?
Almost all cats are… just cats. Mutts, domestic shorthairs, whatever you want to call them. If you didn’t get him from a breeder, chances are slim to none that he’s purebred or even a mix of a purebred.
Soft fur just means that he’s healthy
All healthy cats should have soft fur.
need to see a pic… but by your description sounds like a persian mix… the hair and the quiet…. I have two persians and they are quiet as mice….. and their fur is super soft… like wool when I trim it
If you don’t have papers, your cat is most likely a mixed breed cat with large feet. Without a picture no one can tell from this description of possible mixes.
Want an answer – It’s a domestic cat.
More than likely a mix breed.
If you’ve had him since kittenhood and didn’t buy him from a breeder then he isn’t likely any breed at all. Soft fur doesn’t make the cat a specific breed. It’s just the way his coat is and perhaps due to the diet you’re feeding him. And with over 97% of the cats on this entire PLANET no breed – I’m sure that’s what your cat is as well.
