As for the minimal grooming, rule out the Coon! The shorthair will require the least amount of grooming, along with the Russian Blue. Scottish Folds also come in shorthair. Ragdolls are probably the friendliest and have a lot of personality. You realize all these cats with the exception of the American Shorthair, are purbreeds and VERY expensive. I looked up every breed in my Cat Fancy magazine and all are available. All kinds of breeds are in my magazine. As far as being alone all day, most cats do just fine alone. Cats that go outside can't be kept in by a fence like dogs, and you wanting a purebreed leaves it open to being stolen as it checks out the neighborhood. If you go to my profile and e-mail me,I'd be happy to give you some info on how to reach people for every breed you've listed and they can help you make the decision you'd be happiest with. Of course,a cat from a shelter can also be the best buddy in the world!!

First off, no breeder is going to sell you one of their pedigreed kittens if you intend to let it outdoors.

Secondly, do you realize that pedigreed cats START at about $600 and cats that are very popular - and not as common - such as the Scottish Fold START at about $1,000? Then add in the cost of spaying/neutering, shots, microchipping and you'll be spending at least $900-$1,300 to get one of these.

Why not go to a shelter and ADOPT? And not a kitten - a cat. With kittens you can't know their personality so whether it will be "playful and affectionate" is really unknown. With adult cats - the personality is right there before you. You'll also only pay around $100 and get a cat that's already altered, up to date on shots, deflead, dewormed, tested for disease and microchipped.

Don't get a long hair cat if you don't have time to comb 2-3 times a week. You might get away with the Ragdoll only needing combing 2 x a week. Go with shorthair.

The RB is a quiet cat and doesn't mind being alone, as well as the ASH and Fold. The RB is the least grooming time of all of them.

However, if you are gone alot, either adopt an older cat (1 yr+) or two kittens to keep each other company. Keep in mind that if you are looking at purebreds (all the breeds) - prices start at $600+

Go to an Animal Shelter and bring home the cat that catches your heart.

So many cats are euthanized everyday in shelters because of irresponsible pet owners who don't spay/neuter their cats.

I would get a short haired cat. Long haired cats get matted fur which is hard to deal with.
