You need a humidifier in your house. Your home is too dry, thus static.
When colder temps. arrive and furnace goes on the heat will eliminate moisture in your home. Not only will your dogs fur return to normal, but you and your home will also benefit from more moisture.
Humidity also puts moisture back in to wood and furniture and you wouldn’t have to use so much chapstick.
It’s due to the dry weather of winter. Some things that you could do to help with this is put an air humidifier into your house. You could also wet a brush and run it through it’s fur. A wet cloth will also do the same thing. Best of luck!
Hi Jaide…this time of the year there’s less humidity in the air so it feels drier than usual. By using a humidifier it will add moisture back into the air thereby reducing the static levels when you pet your cat or touching metal objects that snap out a zinger.
My raggy is just the same. I have had shocks off of him, when he is lying on my bed on his blanket which is nylon. Its just a build up of Static electricity. Nylon acts as a conducter. It more likey to hurt you than your raggy, altho the noise can make the spook. Same as with our hair, rub it in something like a carpet then stick to your hair and watch it stick.
Humidity will do the trick, get an inexpensive air humidifier (the ones Mom used to use when you were sick)…not water directly on the cat.
I have long hair and running a wet brush through it helps with static for a minute or two, but then it dries and it’s worse than what I started with.
Non-scented dryer sheets will work too. If you don’t want to rub your cat with them rub them on the furniture where she hangs out.

You need moisture. Your place is too dry.
Add some humidity and if it really bothers you rub her down with a non-scented hypo-allergenic dryer sheet.
Or you can do what I would do and take pictures. I usually am not laughing w/ my pets, but at them. Goofy animals. lol
central heating dries the air and makes this happen more – I keep getting shocks off our cats and they are shorthaired.
