Will My New 2 Yr Old Ragdoll Female Cat Jump Off the Balcony?
April 3rd, 2010
Hi,
I live on the 1st floor in an apartment and have a 2 yr old female ragdoll cat. I am worried about letting her out onto the balcony incase she jumps off. She doesn’t seem very curious or adventurous and has a quiet nature. The balcony railing is wide gaps so I am alittle worried. Can she be taught to not go outside on the balcony? She is a totally indoor pet.
Apart from cat wiring etc … and other suggestions?

Take the cat out on a harness and leave it very loose and see what it does. I don’t think it will jump or run unless it wants to get away from you or something that it is frightened of. I have a very big deck [one floor up] and my cat basks in the sun right on the edge of it but never falls off and has no inclination to jump. Even if yours did jump, it probably won’t hurt itself, being so close to the ground. They have marvellous powers to turn themselves around mid-flight and land on their feet however they can still run away if they are so inclined but if you provide a safe and loving home for them, they are unlikely to run far.
